40 Thai soldiers pulled out of Chak Chreng

Thai paratroopers were ordered to pull out from the Chak Chreng area on top of Mount Dangrek between 12:30PM and 5:30PM on Tuesday 16 March, General Chhum Socheat, the spokesman of the Cambodian ministry of Defense, claimed. Nevertheless Chhum Socheat said that troops from both sides did not all pull out from the confrontation zone. Both sides have decided to keep four soldiers each along the northwest region of Chak Chreng. On 14 March, 40 Thai paratroopers from Unit 6 came to station near the Chak Chreng pass and they claimed that they came to prevent illegal logging. Chhum Socheat said that although there were 40 Thai paratroopers who came to face Cambodian soldiers, in fact there were more of them in the back and they have a total number of about 100 soldiers. Following the presence of Thai soldiers, General Srey Doek, the commander of army unit 3, and the commander of the Cambodian troops in Chak Chreng held a negotiation with Thai troops immediately on 16 March, it was after that the Thai soldiers decided to pull their troops back.
